Deposits

At the beginning of a new Tenancy Agreement, we will normally ask for a Security Deposit.  This is to protect us from unpaid rent and damage to the property.

There are rules concerning how much we can take as a deposit and what we have to do with it.

Deposits have to be paid into a Government Approved Scheme, where they are held for the duration of the Tenancy.  We use the Deposit Protection Service (DPS) and your deposit is protected in their Custodial Scheme.

You can visit the DPS website here.

If you are renting with us through a scheme backed by Reading Borough Council, your deposit will be protected differently, as per your arrangement with the Council - and you should contact them directly if you need any further information.
